Think this is a bit of a common sense based question, but I'll get your opinion anyhow...

I've just been rearranging my study and placed my fancy new desk (why is black and glossy never a good idea ?!?) in front of the window - beats looking at the wall. Just dawned on me though... the imac now has it's back to the window and is probably gonna get a little hot under the collar once the sun begins to shine.

Although we all know the chances of sun isn't overly high in the UK, am I likely to be causing problems for the imac ?

Heat is never good but it's unlikely that it will cause any concrete failures. Like you said, the probability of sun in UK is around the same as winning the lottery so I wouldn't worry too much :p
