Looking at selling my old 2012 13” MBP and picking up and iMac that’ll be dual use for me but also as a central family computer.

My oldest is almost 6 and wanting to use a computer for some school things which I’m happy with as we’ll be supervising her in the lounge, plus my mbp is on its last legs anyway.

I was going to go with the base 27 (and SSD) as it would fit our needs of general use but very light gaming in boot camp if needed, dam old steam library. Plus also it’ll be perfect for my girls to FaceTime the parents back in England with (we are in New Zealand).

My concern is though is would the 27 be too large for kids, like my 6 year old, to comfortably use? FaceTime yeah that’s all good and so would looking at photos she’s took, but for other stuff I’m unsure if too big. The 21.5 with SDD and upgraded ram is pushing the 27 price that’s all.

Thoughts?

Why do you think that it would be too big?

Ergonomically speaking, the only thing that's really wrong with it is that ports are in the back.

SDCard-- can't really be moved, but that really depends on whether your kids need to use that...

USB slots-- you'll need to use a hub for those flash drives.

Headphone jack-- oh my this is an accident waiting to happen. Maybe bluetooth headphones?

The mouse and keyboard are wireless, so if your kids find the screen too massive, it's easy to back up, and maybe down-res the screen.

How big is your television?

Good point, 48" but they don't sit at arms length from it.

More so because of limited space on any desk/table we have to push back from it really. Didn't want them to be having to look around too much if that makes sense, but just have a feeling the 21 would be perfect for now but then maybe not so much later on. Plus I don't like the fact I have to pay apple for the ram upgrades in the 21 :)
