How would I ensure that CrossFire is enabled for 3d mark in Windows? I have enabled CrossFire in the AMD app and ticked the box to do it for all applications. 3d mark itself says that there are two? Any ideas?

Then it's enabled.

You can also confirm by re-running the test without those options checked. You should get around half the score you got.

Here's my 2009 MacPro with a GTX 670, and Cinema Display (2560 x 1600). I've never had an issue with games.

Mind you, I'm a bit concerned with how the R9 M295X will perform with 3D viewports in applications like Maya and Cinema 4D. Both viewports work smoothly with my 670 at 2560 x 1600, but I'm guessing they're going to be a bit more choppy with 295X at 5K.

I guess I'll find out in 2 weeks when it's delivered.

In the interest of science I went into bootcamp and then ran the benchmark in Direct3D and OpenGL, both with Crossfire on and off.

I'm getting more and more depressed by the new iMac's GPU. Is there any point to getting the 295, now? Someone please install Boot Camp on the new 5K iMac, for the love of science!

I am not sure why you're getting depressed. I think it's quite impressive. I would still like to rerun the 2650x1440 test when I have a chance and match bumfluff's settings to check something, but I think this guy is onto something:

Thanks Seb - very useful information! Please add my GTX 670 results to the chart, lol.

I can't do that mate, because you have selected your own settings. You need to run it in the ExtremeHD preset and not change anything.

I'm not sure how that figures. My 2012 iMac (i7, MX 680GTX 2GB) is benching almost identical scores to the 4Ghz i7/R295X in Valley, both of us running at 2560x1440.

Why wouldn't I be depressed, unless I'm missing something?

Here is the same test on a GTX-660 on my Windows 7 machine. Note the CPU is running at 4Ghz, despite being reported at 2.93Ghz.

Ok cheers, I'll run them at your settings. I'm really interested in seeing the results.

Am I missing something? I would have thought a 10% increase over a 780M is rather disappointing.

Don't be too quick to make your final decision based on the results of one synthetic benchmark. :)

Considering that this is a new card, I expect the drivers need some tweaking too.

True and also, I'd really wait for someone who does some serious comparison like anandtech. But overall, it depends if you want/need an upgrade now or if you want to wait 2 years... or 1.5 years or whenever it is. Also, no guarantee that Apple will go back to Nvidia. I had thought about buying a refurbished '13 iMac but the price difference between the retina isn't that much.

Sure. So here is Bumfluff's run with Extreme HD preset. Somebody with an iMac 780M post their result here. I can't find one on the net at the moment, unless you can?

According to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaQcZPtVKsQ

Under OS X using Open GL, the M295X is on par with a 780m under Windows and Direct X. Meaning that it will be about 20% faster under windows! this is great news, as the 780m can already handle Battlefield at all Ultra settings with 4x AA at 1440p and 30 fps.

So, disable AA, use the radeon card and you're looking at Ultra 1440p and around 48 fps in BF4. :D

That's respectable for an iMac. Even better if you change it to High settings and just have some fun.

Interesting results. :)

Will have to wait for a real template rendering :) Already asked one of the members. If he does it ill post the results here!!

Regarding Cinebench it seems an improvement over the 780m but...

780m - 87fps
m295x - 105fps

yes, the 295x is 20% faster than 780M
