I'm considering using an iMac 5K to edit a web series, however, I've read some posts about how this computer heats to over 100 degrees up while editing and rendering. In addition, the fan noise gets very loud.

Can some of you please share your experiences with this issue? Have any of you experienced excessive heat and the noisy fan?

After using the iMac 5K and experiencing these heat issues would you recommend a Mac Pro instead o the 5K model?

Thanks!

100 degrees is normal. Any computer will heat up when doing rendering, video editing or any other heavy media production stuff.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. If temperatures were to go really high, the computer would shut down by itself to prevent damage.

The mac Pro is designed to remain quiet under load. On my imac 5k (m290x), the fan turns on circa 85 C. It is noticeable, but it's difficult to get to that point. The m295 puts out more heat.

I wouldn't say that 100c is normal, but it is common in iMacs. I for sure wouldn't let any processor get that warm in a regular pc, but we don't have much of a choice do we ;)

What is correct though is everything heating up. How the iMac handles that though is a whole other story.

Same with mine. Hovers at about 85c tops.

Edit: Regarding the Mac Pro over the 5K iMac. I would have gotten the Mac Pro over the 5K iMac, but not now. Only once they release an update for the Mac Pro as well as release a new Cinema Display.
