Has anyone here done a conversion of standard 5k iMac w/stand to VESA mount? I understand that the stand isn't as easy to remove as slipping a credit card to expose the screws as in order models or iMac Pro, but there's a video of you being able to remove the stand by means of removing the glass and accessing the screws from the inside.

My question is, is there a way to mount a VESA adapter once you can take off the stand of the 5k iMac?

I hate you. This has got to be the ugliest solution!
Take it up with Tim Cook and the Apple complaint department

Yeah it's possible to do. Obviously you would have to buy the parts for the VESA mount. Including the backing plate (which replaced the hinge), and the two bracket parts.

For reference, this is what you would be after: https://www.thebookyard.com/product.php?cPath=34_166_524&products_id=17700
Thank you! This is perfect, until I saw the price! ?

This appears to be genuine apple parts. I wonder if these are pulls from actual Apple VESA configs or did apple sell them separately?

No worries - do keep in mind Bookyard tend to charge a premium. (I tend to only use it for part numbers)
You will most likely be able to buy these parts elsewhere for cheaper. I do not believe Apple ever sold these kits separately - Bookyard is a company which will strip genuine parts out of machines and sell them on typically.

Yeah, either way, really good resource to have! Thanks!

It’s so absurd that they don’t design all their products with stands to be easily switchable to VESA
They did make it like that on the iMacs! They the 5k's came and they changed it so it couldn't be easily converted and then on the iMac Pro's they added the capability back. On the new Studio Displays, it's said that it's back to unchangeable

From a practical standpoint, the answer to the OP's original question is:
NO.

If you want an iMac with a VESA mount, best to sell what you have and buy one with a VESA mount.

One other thing to be aware of:
Once you HAVE an iMac with a VESA mount, it will become very difficult to resell, because few people would want it, and your chances of locating such buyers will be even smaller.
