iMac Audio?

Hey guys im thinking about buying an iMac to supplement my Voodoo notebook. One of the things that i would like my iMac to do would be to work as a "music server" so that i could be in my bed with my notebook and still be able to have my speakers playing. Also i would like to be able to watch DVDs on the bigger screen with 5.1 audio. I have Logitech Z-560s, would the mini-optical port on the iMac be able to power all the channels on the speakers? And how is the quality?
