Hi guyz,

I need to ask you, I can't really decide what should I do.
Currently I have MBP 13" 2.7 i7 with 8GB ram.
And I'm thinking about something better.
I can't decide between Base iMac or retina Macbook Pro.
I definitely would upgrade iMac later with SSD and Ram.
If I'm buying rMBP - I have to sell my MBP 13". If buying 27" base - I can keep my MBP.
But, when thinking that for rMBP's money I can get almost maxed out iMac, but of course then I have to sell my MBP...

Btw, I don't really need portability. I'll spend next 3years in college and I think I don't need to carry laptop there, maybe on last year.

What should you do?

Thanks!!

Well the rMBP is amazing, I have one. I sold my maxed out 2011 27" iMac for it.

The iMac is old and a spec bump is suppose to come in the next few months, so I wouldnt buy an iMac right now if it were me. If you dont need portability then why sell a 13" MBP for a 15" rMBP?

When you really think about it, what do you usually lean towards?

Yeah I know, I'm waiting them to be refreshed.

I'd sell it just because I need more money towards it.

Its nice to have something portable and powerful at the same time, thats why I like iMac + MBP combo. But Retina is best so far - it's new thing, which will not be 'old' thing after another few months if you know what I mean.

What do you mean learn towards? What I'll do in college? IT.

I posted this in another thread but this is pretty easy:

The updated iMac will be faster and will last you forever. The desktop specs are far faster than the Retina MBP. Then, it can be your extra Thunderbolt Display when it gets too slow for your liking.

the Retina MBP is a first generation product like the once Macbook Air. The future of Laptops for sure, but with several drawbacks in its initial iteration.

The 2nd generation Retina MBP will be great and much more refined.

Get the iMac if you want to be safe.

Sounds like you will get the rMBP regardless of what we say. For me I would get the iMac and keep your current laptop.
