imac base vibrating

my new imac base is vibrating on the desk which is annoying because it is making me hands tingle when i use the mouse or keyboard as well as making an annoying sound. if i lift up the back of the base the sound stops. my first imac didn't do this so i don' think it's as simple as the the metal on the wood desk. does anyone else have a vibrating base?
