The new quad core iMac (with i7 processor) is not only $300 less expensive than the low end Mac Pro it also has a faster processor (i think. correct me if I'm wrong), more ram, a better graphics card, and it comes with a display, mouse and keyboard.

Just thought I would like to point this out...

I'd like to point out the search feature and the fact that the imac is not in the same class of machine as the mac pro.

lets see you add multiple hard drives to you imac
lets see your imac support 8 monitors
i really want to see you add lightpeak to your imac if it comes out next year
does the imac have ECC memory?
can you upgrade your 2009 imac with usb 3.0 next year?
hows raid work on an imac?
is your imac made to run at full speed 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

this thread has been done and is pointless, two different machines for two different users.

    Wow man you look pissed...

You should take into consideration that mos users don't need to upgrade that much and they don't give a single Sh** for raid configurations and im pretty sure that the 27 inches of LED screen are good enough for most people living on earth. And about running full speed 24 hours a day and 7 days a week : Most people have a life man...

Sure!. The mac pro is allowed you to add/modify its hardware like BTO PC while iMac is more specific. If your work related to professional graphic, 3D render or video editing then you should choose mac pro. it's more stable and reliable:D.

Do a side-by-side rendering video and let me know how that works out. LOL

Don't get me wrong, If they have managed to avoid thermal problems with the iMac 4-core, it will be a great desktop machine, as the current 27" is to be fair. But to compare it to a Mac Pro is to miss the big picture by focussing on a few details used by marketers as key differentiators. There is so much more to the architecture of the Mac Pro.

It's like saying a Canon pocket camera is as good as a Leica M8 because they are both 10 Megapixels.

Well your right in one mind. The spec is better, but the mac pro can be upgraded with new gpu, extra multiple hdds and more ram support so yes base models are worse then the imac but have the potential to be so much better[IMG]
