iMac calendar sync to iPhone

Is it normal for an event scheduled on my iMac to take 4-5 hours to finally show up on my iPhone?

Depends sense it is using iCloud for the wireless syncing! So it depends on your wires speed, the number of people accessing iCloud at that moment and your wireless connection. Try it late at night and it will sync in blink of an eye!
