iMac Computer Name Keep Changing!

Hi,

My computer name always keep changing with a message like "computer name X already exist in your network and your computer name is now X(2)". I have to change the computer name back to X, or the computer will be rename to X(3), X(4) .... etc.

I did not change anything in my network.

Is there any way to stop this?

Did you migrate from another computer of yours? You can't have two of them with the same name, so the network will assign a number after whichever connects second. You should have received a pop-up informing you of this the first time you connected.

No, I only have one Mac, others are PCs. In fact, I only leave the Mac turned on all the time and other PC turned off.

When I come back from work, I saw the message that my Mac needs to rename.

My Mac is connected via WiFi and Ethernet, do you think this is the cause?

I have the same issue, now Macbook Pro (3)

I think it is related to connecting over wireless versus wired

Why do you have it connected to both?

This could be the problem as each adapter is assigned an IP Address by your router. Each IP then broadcasts its name.

I connected to both because I want to use Remote.app of iPhone to control the speakers that connect to Airport Express.
