    Hey,

I have a year old Core Duo White iMac.

Sometimes the fans will go a bit fast and the top of the case gets very warm, I don't remember this happening a few months ago.

This happens a lot when I'm in Windows and playing games, what can I do to prevent this? When I first got it, the iMac was completely silent and always cool - even when in Windows.

What can I do to get the nice quiet and cool iMac I used to have?

It's going to be hot when playing games.

Hot isn't a very specific term either and this.

It's not exactly hot, but it's just very warm.

I just cleaned out the entire computer (using iKlear, vacuuming, and dusting) and clear out the fan in the back and it's cooler in OSX now.

Windows still gets pretty hot though, I'll keep that temperature monitor in there to see how hot it gets.

How come the temperatures are different in Mac and Windows?

I wouldn't worry too much if you're running everything stock.

I overclocked the hell out of my iMac for almost a year. It does get hotter in Windows. I suggest setting the minimum fan speed in OS X using SMCFanControl before rebooting. It'll stick when you make it over to the other side. ;)

Just don't give Apple a reason not to fix your Mac.
