Ok so I have decided that I want a 24" Imac 2.8ghz with an 8800gs 512 video card in it. I built that on apple.com with my student discount it comes out to be 2400 after taxes and added in the itouch. After selling the itouch and getting the rebate I end up spending 1800 in all.

I am wondering if there is a way to get this setup for 1800 without having to go through all of that.

I looked on macmall but the only computers they have with the 8800 are the 3.06ghz ones for over 2k.

I'd really like some help, thanks.

The only thing that comes close is the same config on ebay for 1929 and I happen to live in North Carolina which gives me free shipping but I didn't want to spend that much.

    Thanks in advance,

    Evan

No, it is not possible to do so. As well, odds are you won't get the full $300 for your resold iPod, just so you know. If you want the computer you're intending to buy, be prepared to spend some money.

I agree, if you want the 8800 and the 24'' screen, be prepared to throw down some cash.

they're expensive, but so worth it.

maybe build some credit with the purchase? its never too early.

I mean.. I have 900 in cash right now.. if I sell my xbox 360 which I want to do I will have 1200 and then my dad told me hed pay 300 of it which takes me up to 1500 and then I'm selling a camera on ebay for around 200 and that'll be 1700. If I have to I can throw down 600 of my own money from working and be like $100 short.

I found a guy selling 24 inch imac near me with 3ghz / 8800 / 500gb for 2k but I talked him down to 1800. Think I should do it? I will def check it all before I make a purchase.

seems not bad, see if he'll go down another $100, and then you'll be set. main thing is to make sure you have the ability to add applecare on it.

    agreed.

especially if you're buying it from 'a guy'.

the applecare will save your life as it has so many people.

the thing you have to remember is that buying a laptop and desktop from a guy on craigslist (i assume?) is totally different. with a laptop, you could inspect everything and turn it on... not so with a desktop, unless you go to his house or take it out at a starbucks :p

Here is the funny thing, and you all should get a kick out of this.

I just got an email from him saying that he recognized my name and asked if ive been in the apple store before. I looked him up on facebook and he works at the apple store and i know who he is so there is no question that it will work perfectly and he said hed lower the price since he knows me.

mmm... did he give you a new price yet? it should be pretty good assuming he used his 25% discount on it.

sorry for going slightly off topic, but how does getting applecare work on secondhand machines? Do you have to get the original receipt? Also, could there be a problem since the original purchaser is an employee, some stores have special policies covering employee sales.
