I am using an imac G5 Intel. I had just installed a new 1GB memory card. While checking that it had been recognized, I hit the scroll button on top of the mouse. The display started zooming in until the entire screen only displays a few characters. I ran a test using the startup disk & everything checked ok. I have started, restarted, etc. with no improvement. Surely there is a simple solution to restoring the display to normal. Please help!!

If I understand correctly you have somehow zoomed in on your display and you cannot undo this?
The display zooming in and out function is used when you press 'ctrl' and scroll with your mouse.

Go to Keyboard/Mouse preferences (10.5) or Mouse preferences (10.6) and turn off "Zoom using scroll ball while holding [modifier key]" You can also disable screen zoom via Universal Access->Seeing. Both the preference panes can be found in System Preferences under the Apple menu.
