I let my imac fall asleep last night to the point where the screen was black. After a few minutes the screen woke up on it's own. The only hardware plugged in was my printer and it was turned off. Any idea how this happend?

Do you have "Wake on Network Activity" selected in Energy Saver? That can cause it, or something vibrated the desk enough to register mouse movement.

"wake for ethernet network administrator access" was checked off, should i uncheck that? is there an advantage to having that option on?
