Hello,

I am trying to partition and format two external hard drives for my iMac. The Disk Utility does not seem to recognize them. One is a brand new disk that i bought and the other is one that i had in raid format and will reuse. Any idea?

Thank you,Bill

Maybe your eternal drive shuffled off its mortal hardware.

Given that it doesn't recognize either: Is your enclosure known to work?

Can you plug the drives into A DIFFERENT computer (can even be a PC)?

Does that computer recognize the presence of the drives?

If so, can you initialize them on the OTHER computer?

If so, try that. Then, take them back to the Mac, connect them, and see what happens.
If they mount then, my suggestion would be to re-launch Disk Utility and try to re-initialize them once more, this time for Mac format.

Another question:
What are you using to "enclose" the drives, by which to connect them to the Mac?

If it is an external enclosure, I suggest you try a DIFFERENT enclosure.

A USB3/SATA docking station might be a good choice.
