iMac Ethernet craziness

ok so I've been running my iMac on my wireless connection for months & decided to hook it up directly to my time capsule via Ethernet to free up banwidth.

Now after an hour leapard crashes. I get a message stating that I need to power of using the power button.

WTF? Why would an Ethernet connection cause system failure?
