Hi, i have a aluminum iMac that is connected to the internet via ethernet at 100MBPS. However, I do not see the two flashing lights I think im supposed to be seeing. If you look at you Macs Ethernet port, when connected, you will otice two lights lit up. I dont. Why? Logic board problem?

run network diagnostics to see if your port is working.

Unless they were added recently, Mac Ethernet ports don't have Link and Activity lights.

Um, that's why I qualified the statement. None of my Macs have Link or Activity lights. You said you "think" you're supposed to; have you ever seen them on this machine, or looking directly at the port, can you see any LED lenses?

OK, thanks for the clarification. Personally, I'm glad those don't aren't on mine. Ethernet networks are usually reliable enough anymore that the light's use as a diagnostic tool is outweighed by the annoyance factor.

In any case, either the L & A output is disabled normally, or the NIC is dodgy. Call AppleCare to get a solid answer (I know the ones in the Apple Store are likely all using AirPort anyway so you can't tell by looking at them, either). I would assume that you're still under warranty, so if it is a malfunction it's covered. In either case, the important thing is that the actual functionality doesn't seem to be affected.

There are three aluminium iMacs within 10 feet of me right now, they are brand spanking new and they don't have ethernet lights on them.

Some ethernet wires have them and show they are connected, are you thinking of this?

Sorry to seem a little rude but... does it really matter if the ethernet port has lights or not? I mean, as long as it works, cool!
