P playm0de macrumors member Original poster Sep 30, 2006 #1 My iMac's fan has been getting progressively louder since I've had it. Right now, I can hear its hum even while playing music from the computer. What causes the fan to get louder? Is there any way I can make it quieter? Thanks.

W wchong macrumors 6502 Sep 30, 2006 #2 heat makes it louder. you could 1) take out the fans... 😀 or 2) call apple and do some troubleshooting to find the cause. maybe the problem is that mac os tends to keep the programs running even after you close them which and lead to more heat production
