My iMac's fan has been getting progressively louder since I've had it. Right now, I can hear its hum even while playing music from the computer. What causes the fan to get louder? Is there any way I can make it quieter? Thanks.

heat makes it louder.
you could 1) take out the fans... 😀 or 2) call apple and do some troubleshooting to find the cause.
maybe the problem is that mac os tends to keep the programs running even after you close them which and lead to more heat production

Is it hot where you are? iMacs are rated to 95* f. (I think.)
Running at higher temperature would cause abnormal fan activity. (I've experienced this..)
