Has anyone heard or suspect a new form for the IMAC lineup in the future--The current body and screen style exist from 2012?

People were expecting this for the 2017 iMac and nothing happened and as mentioned above, if there was going to be a change to the form factor, it would have occurred with the iMac Pro and that was not the case.

When they re-engineer the casing and all, the pricing inevitably goes up as they have to recoup all the extra R&D, testing etc that goes into it. I guess they’re sticking with the design currently so they don’t inflate the iMac’s pricing just as windows competitors like the surface studio are coming into their own.

No, it wont, but their profit might take a hit. Apple base the price on how much are willing to pay, not how much it cost to produce. If people stops being willing to pay, Apple must either reduce the price or come up with something new people are willing to pay for. Of course the cost must be covered, but Apple already have a very high profitmargin. Apple is the only company I know, who doesn't reduce the price to improve sale or clear inventory.

I also don't see a redesigned iMac in near future. My best guess is, that next iMac will have edge to edge display. But sure it will not have a notch for face-id.

Phil Schiller said in reaction to the cost of the new mbps that they don’t build to a set price, it costs what it costs:

They did, the Mac Pro 2013 actually reduced its price few months ago. But of course, this is a very exceptional case. A single product with absolutely zero update and still selling after 4 years. TBH, even after the price drop, it's still significantly over price (vs the spec as per today's standard).

There's really no need to "refresh" the iMac's exterior.
It's sleek and smooth as it is.
What could possibly be changed that would offer any significant improvement?

If they "improve" anything, I want it to be -inside-.
More power, more cooling, longer reliability.

We see such threads as this regularly here.
Why is the desire to "change" it a good thing?
