iMac G3 Boot Problem

My Friend has a G3 running OS 8 (I believe its Os 8.6, not 100% though.)
Anywho I've witnessed it Booted many times. But now It starts its boot, then the loading bar stops in the middle.
He Doesn't have the original discs.

Any thoughts of what's going on?
