I have an iMac G3. I formatted my hard drive when I booted from cd. But now when I try to install the os I get a message saying my firmware is old. I tried to update my firmware with the cd but again I get an error saying my volume is locked so can not upgrade firmware.

An iMac G3's firmware can only be updated by using a hard drive installation of Mac OS 9. The firmware update is required to install and boot from Mac OS X.
