Will an airport extreme card work for this model or do I have to get the original airport card?

I think the first iMac G4 that had Airport Extreme is the 1GHz model. You can only use the one originally supported (they're physically different kinds of cards, I think). So you're stuck with an Airport Card. You can also use a USB adapter if you can find one that's compatible.
