As most of you here now probably realise, I have difficulty in refusing a good looking iMac G4 when I'm offered one. I've yet to pull the trigger on this one........ Could somebody please confirm that the following message indicates a problem with a hard drive and nothing more sinister. - - Ah, now understand it's a kernal panic related message. Guess it could be a HD or Ram problem. Probably worth a gamble........
That’s right. In theory, a kernel panic during boot would imply the machine POSTs okay. So in other words, the logic board, CPU, GPU, System bus controller, ROM, etc are working okay, however that’s not to say it can’t be the ram slots on the board at fault. The first thing I would try is to boot into single user mode and run fsck. It might just need a fresh install.
