imac g4 displays this message

every so often, once/twice a week, the monitor darkens (like a dark veil) and at the centre a message - ' you need to restart your computer, hold the power button for several seconds or press the restart button'.

when it restarts, everything ok. Any ideas

This sounds like a kernel panic. This has happened to me once before; I rebooted and no problems since.
