iMac G4 ram doesn't work

I have a fifteen inch imac g4 with 800 MHZ processor speed. It has two slots of ram with 256 MB in each slot. I upgraded the factory slot to 512 MB low density ram from ebay and it doesn't work!! The system profiler says that the slot is empty. I put it back in three times and it still didn't recognize it (although it did recognize the 256 MB). I'm confused. Please help. I can't stand a sluggish comp.

it is probably not the right type of RAM or is fried. I suggest going to crucial and finding the right type for your computer.

Then buy a new one. The 800mhz cpu is going to be a bottleneck even with maxed out ram.

You're running an older mac in an unsupported OS. Speed is not something you can expect.

You said it's low density? That means it will have the chips on both sides of the module. The ones you buy one ebay will be a hit or miss.

Resolved! It turns out that the ram stick was deffective. Lame. oh well. time to buy more! 😎
