I think you have a lemon, the reason it was thrown out. Don't pirate software as it will cause more problems if you ever get it going. If you want an operating system, look for a full retail DVD of Leopard OS X.5. Despite what you may read you won't have any success tryinmg to nuse a PC to burn discs.

So the question mark means it cannot find anything to boot from (generally a bad hard drive). You should be able to option boot it to an external drive or some boot discs if you get a hold of some 10.4 or 10.5 discs.

well i understand that the retail might work with the issue but before i pay 50 odd pounds to get retail dvd i'm looking thru all other options. to be honest i tried to make bootable usb using VMware but it failed went thru other forums and googled at least 1 week i made diskwarrior bootable cd from dmg file but imac ignores that and simply ejects cd or dvd i found couple post that this issue might cause cd/dvd laser lens (i can hear that lens moves but not start to spin). so i end up with x3 dvds osx 10.4 tiger x2 dvds 10.5 leopard x2 dvds 10.6 snow leopard and few others lion yoshimite

The video is shot, regardless whether or not you can get it to boot again.

Frankly, you wasted whatever you spent on it.

Not worth fixing.

One cheap test would be to burn a Power PC (PPC) Linux live CD/DVD and then try a CD boot using 'C' or <option>. If that works then you know the hardware is good and you can see about getting an official Tiger or Lion install DVD. If that doesn't work then it has either hardware or firmware issues which will not be an easy fix.

It looks like you’ll need a new HD and a Logic board. The Logic board swap is a difficult repair. iFixit.com. I have a 17” iMac G5 sitting in my office with a bad GPU. I bought a Logic board for it years ago but have never gotten around to doing the repair. You can probably buy a Logic board on eBay for about $50.00 or less. Same for a 500GB HDD. The proper tools also if you don’t have them.
