3 whole weeks of the original AppleCare remaining :) :) :)

But does this still apply if I bought it as a Cancom refurb? If so, at least that gives me the option to take it to the Apple Store anyway.

Should do... the machine isn't a year old and if you're not going to get charged, there's no problem. I would tell the Genius that you're not the original owner though in case they get a call to get their iMac back!

That's a very good point!

Cheers :D

...update...

Well I've been lazy and still haven't taken the hard disk out to back it up...

...but for all you Mac geeks out there, here's a little home movie I made ;) :D

iMacPr0n (warning: contains nude scenes)
well the iMac is bare and so is my hand

Just took this video with my iSight. It shows the power cord being connected to the iMac and the diagnostic LEDs.

LED 1 indicates that trickle voltage from the power supply has been detected. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned off and your power supply is working correctly.
Check.

LED 2 indicates that the main logic board has detected proper power from the power supply when the computer is turned on. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned on and the power supply is working correctly.
Well even before the computer is turned on, you can see from the video that LED 2 appears to be flashing on/off. This is where the squeaking noise is coming from! In the video I then press the internal power button on but nothing happens.

Turn the volume up to hear the squeak!

Are you allowed to post such graphic videos? :p

Hmmm... well this is quite worrying because I thought Apple had sorted out all the Rev. A logic board problems. Sorry to hear that your iMac is being a lazy bugger.

My Rev iMac 20" has had its Logic Board replaced twice now, and now its optical drive has packed it in. It is over Apple Care, but we applied for extended warranty and havent heard back from Apple.

Why won't they just give me an Intel iMac?

I am now typing this on my "old" PB 12" after my recently repaired (replaced the power supply) iMac G5 20" (the one before the iSight being built-in) started doing the same crap of rebooting constantly tonight.

And this past week my SuperDrive was giving me problems too. So I went out an bought a couple different disks. Hit or miss on whether I can record to them all.

I am getting fed up with Apple QC. Thought that iGary's issues were limited. But perhaps not.

I spent a couple of visits in order to get it in the first time since I am not a ProPlan "buyer". Even though they had free techs when I showed up before opening, and had free techs as I argued my case with the "managers".

Maybe I need to weigh my time trouble shooting DLL conflicts in Windows verses poor QC with the Apple product. Maybe there is hope in a Dell PC running OSX.

At least with those I have talked with, issues with Dell seemed to be more about OS issues than very poor QC issues.

Anyone else want to join me in a Macrumors vs Cancom protest on High St Ken this Saturday? :D

As a former disgruntled employee of Cancom (not the kensington one) I'd happily join your protest :D

Excellent! :D

OMG just realised it's been broken for about 6 weeks now and I still haven't found time to take it in for repair.

Did you try pressing that little button next to the battery on the motherboard? I had a problem with my mac similar to it not booting up at all.

The internal power button? Yeah, does nothing, won't power on at all. The diagnostics suggest it needs a new logic board.

I know two people with Dell desktops who have had the hard drive fail. One laptop with a dead hard drive, a laptop whose network card failed for no reason, and a laptop that overheats like it is it's job... as far as quality control, my experience with Dell has been on par with horror stories I've heard on here about Apple. (though Sony comes out right on top as the absolute worst quality control in my book).

Also, when I took my ipod in 2 weeks ago, they still had online reservation from home for the entire day for Geniuses, is this "1 hour" queue something brand new?
