hey guys - I don't think anyone has seen this page for a while but I thought I'd better post for someone surfing for a fix.

Basically I ended up getting my power supply replaced. I was able to extend my warranty and got it for free, but otherwise it would have cost $145.60 (AU) for the power supply and about the same again for install.

something tells me apple new this part would fail!

G5 iMac turning itself off randomly!!

I have had my G5 iMac for nearly 4 years and after about a year it started to turn itself off for no apparent reason. When this first happened - you just re-start and get on with it. After a while it became impossible to work as it was shutting down nearly every 10 mins. As my warranty had expired, I phoned a company in London called Amsys who came and collected my Mac and then phoned me the next day to tell me that the problem was with the power supply. I thought that this was something to do with the lead going from the mains into the back of your mac - but it ISN'T. It's an internal problem that requires a new piece of hardware. Anyway on a lighter front - Amsys fixed my mac and even though it wasn't under warranty - they did it for nothing as apparently this is a design fault with the G5. Hope that helps.
