Assuming my last post was correct and your old Mac IS running OS X, you will also need to enable Personal File Sharing. Go System Preferences > Sharing > Services and click Start after highlighting Personal File Sharing. Make sure you give your old Mac a name in the box above.

I would only bother turing on Sharing on the old Mac. Its name should show up in the Network portion of the Finder window on the new iMac. If you click the name, it should then show an icon with a Connect button underneath it (assuming your finder window is in column view).

One other thing. The reason your old Mac won't boot into OS 9 MAY be because your friend who replaced the original hard drive MIGHT NOT have installed the OS 9 disk drivers. Not knowing his upgrade method though, this may not be true. Also, could you please let me know if you are indeed already running OS X on your old Mac. Its nice to be sure what I'm talking about is correct and not just an assumption.

Still no luck.

Gosh I appreciate your help but nothing is working. I keep thinking it will but I still get the new imacs contents.
I am transferring via the sandisk but talk about alot of time!
I have a thousand files.

I will call Apple and ask if they can help me but I thank you very much again for all your help.

I'll let you know what the glitch is if I find it.

And byw I do have osx and my friend says he installed 9.
I think all the programs only go to 10 as the start up disk which only has 7GB and the other 53 on my harddrive are not being fully utilized. Therefore it says my start up disk is full constantly and won't recognize programs on the desktop.
Bummer but it is a G3 and I can take it to work ( I am an art teacher) and access my files and my email so that will be fine.
I am reallly really enjoying the G5
I recommend them to anyone.
My kids especially like the games that come with it.

YES YES YES

The guy at apple walked me through.
I just wasn't doing something right in the last stages. Neither he or I am sure what since it's the same thing you all told me to do.
Thanks for your help and support!
It's a breeze for those of you considering buying a new computer
