iMac Graphics Card Firmware

Hi All,

Does anybody know whether the graphics cards used in iMacs require any special firmware?

The 5770 in my 2011 iMac is playing up - and I was wondering whether a generic (non-Apple) HD6970M would work? (I would probably need to modify the heatsink but that should be the only "physical" barrier).

Anyone have any ideas? 🙂
