What country is this? EU regulation only requires 2 years of limited seller's liability... I am not aware of any statutory manufacturer's warranty, let alone for 5 years...
In the UK it’s called the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Although two years is mentioned the statute of limitations is set at six years.
My iMac was in pristine condition, unmodified, so getting it done was easy through a reseller.
I imagine that has it have been battered and bruised Apple may have had grounds to refuse.

I just realized the fusion drive on my 2017 iMac died (4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 Quad-Core upgraded 64GB of DDR4 RAM, 27" Display, AMD Radeon Pro 580 Graphics Card (8GB).

The rest of the computer should be fine. Should I:
  • Buy a Thunderbolt 3 SSD to use a bootable disk (4TB would be comparable to what I have in the iMac costing roughly $800)
  • Buy a brand new 14 inch topped out MBP M1 and just use the iMac target display mode (I've been looking for an excuse to buy one and an excuse happened)
  • Both? Might be a shame only use the iMac as a screen when I could still make it work for less than $1000.
Get the toolkit to open the iMac. Open it, strip out the spinner HDD, replace the SSD with a larger one. Give the whole unit a clean out, you will be amazed how much dust is in there. Test it all then stick the screen back on. Install the latest OS, job done.

gotta wonder at Apples logic of having a sealed unit the customer is unable to service/clean. These pics are of my late 2014 unit after 6 years. Wondered why it was overheating, pmsl.
