Don't worry about it! :)

Obviously, bearing in mind how many iMacs that are sold worldwide, there are sure to be a few "rogue" machines. However, Fora such as this one are a magnet for people with horror stories - some of which I personally find hard to believe. As far as the so-called "yellowing" problem is concerned, judging from some of the screen shots used as illustrations, I wonder if the complainers eyesight is mainly at fault!! Don't forget you can always adjust the colour temperature of your screen.

I use my iMac for photo editing too and I'm sure you'll find the screen on the latest iMacs truly amazing for this purpose.

Just enjoy your new machine and don't believe everything you read!! :)

My issues are minor and as you can see most people here have a perfect iMac! Just want to reiterate I did not start this thread to say how bad the iMacs are, just to see how unlucky some people are like myself to have gone through so many... Also apple's customer service is amazing, i bet many other companies would tell me its my fault i have had 6 bad machines... apple just says sorry for your luck and we will fix it no charge!

I am now on my 3rd iMac (see my other thread for details) - had to wait ages for this one to arrive as they would not send the replacement until iMac #2 had arrived back at their depot.

And, what do you know? This one has not 1, but 2 areas with dust or marks under the glass. This, despite the replacement supposedly being handled personally by a specialist who is supposed to have triple checked the screen before shipment. Obviously this could not have happened, unless of course this individual is blind....

This one will be going back too.

I am not sure what to do now to be honest. I said at #3 I would give up and get a MacPro and a monitor that I can actually check in-store before I leave.

The waiting between replacements is lengthy each time because I had the special configuration. If I didn't I guess I would just go to the Apple Store and check with my own eyes before leaving. It would be the only way I think.

I am starting to think that it is near impossible to receive an iMac without any problem whatsoever. Which is plain ridiculous and is really tarnishing my otherwise pro-Apple perspective.

Well I've owned many macs for many years this is the first time I've ever had an issue... I had an ipod malfunction once but everything else from apple has been perfect... im just getting bad luck i guess

I saw another comment of someone who is worried about getting their new iMac. I wouldn't worry. The issues I am having seem to be out of the norm which is why i started the thread... I mean 7 imacs is crazy, but everytime the genius guys just say i must have bad luck... i mean i have always opted to exchange my imac in store cause i can leave with a brand new machine each time. I think now I will get this one repaired since its beyond 30 days old and then maybe I will be problem free.

Im not wanting to go through so many iMacs, its not like I enjoy lugging that big box through the mall... Im just happy apple is so helpful and have great service towards me even after all this... Also I tend to buy something new everytime i walk in with my imac... so they are getting money there at least :)

We agree and if I had been through as many units as the OP, I would be looking for another brand. I have had just great experience with Apple stuff and I am a WIndows 7 only user (via bootcamp) on all of my iMacs.

If, as you say, "dust under the screen" is the problem, I must admit, I find it difficult to understand why you have spent so much time returning your machines to Apple. Why not do the obvious, namely, take it to your local Apple Authorised Service Provider (there are plenty in the London area) where you can personally show them problem and, most likely, they'll sort it out on the spot.

Bought my imac i5 27 about 2 weeks ago, I am on my 3rd and final. First had actual "burn in" of text and a line in the middle of the screen right out of the box, second had a really bad grey line long the bottom. 3rd is good, no yellowing either on this one.

My iMac will be here on Monday so I'll find out shortly!

Well as it happens, for the past replacement I actually offered to do this, and also offered to take the glass off myself and clean the area. But I was specifically told not to do this by the person I have been dealing with at Apple.

There is no reason however WHY anyone should either offer, or worse still be expected to do this. You are buying a brand new product at retail price and being given something that is unacceptable. The fact that this is clearly human error in every case makes the situation even more ridiculous, as the product parts themselves are fine.

The more that people accept this kind of thing, the more often it will happen.

In addition, each time they send out a product like this and it comes back to them, they are losing money. Which in turn drives the prices up for all of us. So it is about time more people drew attention to the fact that a simple check by an intelligent human before the product goes into the box would save them fortunes.

You don't want to offer to take it to a Service Provider - just do it! :) I've personally found them, in many respects, more helpful than an Apple Store, simply because they can, and sometimes will, sort out the problem on the spot.

I totally agree on that point. However, each of the iMacs I've bought over the years have been extremely well packed with protective film etc in pristine condition - and no dusty bits!

They probably haven't drawn attention to any problems because, as has been evidenced by previous posts, they haven't experienced any! As I suggested before, a visit to your local Service Provider should get you sorted in no time. :)

well i dropped it off for repair... the guy asked me where i have it cause the # of returns was so high... i told him its been different issues everytime. Other than that question the genius was great as always, we chatted about past macs and stuff as they went through the paper work for the repair.

Ive always exchanged cause i couldnt be without a computer but this time they had a screen in stock so i will get it tonight or early tomorrow! I am annoyed at the 8 faulty macs but really you cant complain when apple has service as good as this... knock on wood it comes back perfect and i never have to go back again!

well they repaired it and it looks great, there was some dust behind the screen when i picked it up so I asked for a cloth then I just popped the glass off and cleaned it there and then went home. It looks great right now so I hope this is the last one.
