iMac - How to protect from physical theft?

Just curious how people protect their data and machine from theft (like on vacation etc...)

1. I assume everyone encrypts their HD ?
2. Physical mechanisms ? - I have not seen anything too popular. Any tips?

Maybe I am paranoid but if drive is not encrypted you can still get into it by mounting as an external drive

As for camera, that shows you who has it but all data is lost/stolen.

Switch FileVault on.
Hide the mac when away 🙂
Keep onsite backups encrypted.
Have a cloud / offsite backup (also good for fire etc).

Additional software protection: Turn on Firmware Password.

The thing is that if it's the typical drug addict smash-and-grab burglary, they won't bother to take desktops. Too bulky and obvious if they get caught with it, and too much time to move. They'll grab laptops instead.

If it's a serious burglary where they clean out your house, they'll take the furniture the lock is attached to all the same.
