I've been following these threads since I bought my early 2009 generation iMac. Returned it in the beginning of September once all the rumors began circulating about this refresh...

Anyways, ordered an i7 on October 22 and paid via Visa Debit card. I received an email last Friday instructing me that there was a problem with the payment. Turns out my bank does not allow for charges greater than $1500 as a security measure Called customer service and got a temporary override for the day to cover the full cost of the system $2000+. Logged into apple, resubmitted payment and sure enough the funds were immediately no longer available. On Sunday evening the funds were still there and now "available" again, almost as if the charge had been lifted.

This morning I received an email from Apple that my i7 had been shipped. When I checked my bank just now all there is no change in balance and no pending transaction....Doesn't apple usually charge PRIOR to shipping? anyone else have a similiar situation? any thoughts?

Uh, don't worry they will charge you. It might take 2-3 days, it might take a week, you might get the computer before they charge you, but I doubt it will wait more then a week.

    Congrats on your purchase

Mine has shipped and I haven't been charged either. I'm sure they will charge me soon enough.

I had no doubt it would eventually happen, but I want to make sure the money is there when the charge does eventually go through. The money has been sitting there for almost a month now...I wish they'd just take it already. Next time I'll just use a credit card to simplify things. Glad to see others are in the same boat though. Can't wait for next Monday. i can finally stop my obsessive checking of these boards and enjoy my new machine for a while...

I wouldn't want to deal with that mess, if you do. ;) :p

They'll take the funds. Of that you can be certain. :D Getting mine back from them due to a return them took a while though.

the final charge probably hasn't went through, but Apple has already placed a "hold" on those funds, I assure you.

I don't know if this is standard, but it has been for me every time I've purchased from the apple store, whether it was a mbp or snow leopard, same thing happens, always.

Just like hotels, I am sure there is a credit hold on the card for an amount more then what was actually billed, apple will then send the correct amount to the cc company and the balance of the hold will be released in about 5 days
