A MBP with an external monitor would be an excelent choice, not only portable when you need it, but will also have a large enough screen for photoediting! An imac would be very good if your are doing most of editing in the same place at home, take a look at refurb store while your online!

Will do - thanks! :)

Never buy revision A Apple products.

The logic stands for operating systems.

As for products, it depends whether you consider branding something second generation to be a continuation of a previous model or a new product entirely.

you do ask a difficult question. I too would have said take the laptop, but the iPad/iMac combo does give you the portability paired with the power and screen size of the iMac.

As I have had both a desktop and laptop for the past decade, I see the advantages of each. Since you have an iPhone, how do you feel about the functionality of it, as the iPad is mostly a large screen version of that.

Whatever you decide, if you do any build to order from Apple, pass on upgrading the ram. You can do much better with third party vendors than paying Apple's premium. The processor is the only thing I would consider upgrading.

Good luck

I am glad it's not just me thinking this decision is difficult!
I do like my iphone - the only thing which irritates me for emailing/surfing the web etc is the small key board that pop's up - hopefully as the Ipad is bigger it wont feel so titchy and fiddly....otherwise the Ipad should be ok for photo viewing, surfing the web and the odd email etc :)

So that does help me get closer to a decision - thank you B flowers :D
Thanks for the tip about the processor :)

newmbp and seperate screen.

hey,
i would def not waste money on the ipad.
wait and get the newest mbp 15" and an external monitor.

this way you can move around with it and have a large screen at home.
and it will be more than enough power to do what you want.

if you cannot wait.

I'd get the best imac you can now. and put the money you would use to get an ipad
and get a current mbp 13"

i would wait on the ipad. it doesn't even have a camera on it, and it will in a few months
apple makes great stuff but will milk it for every penny_keep that in mind.

Thanks for your advice - i really want the MBP i have decided - but don't know how long i can wait so may have to go for your option B :)

Judging from what you said, I would go with any Macbook together with an iPhone. The laptop for photo editing, and the iPhone for checking emails on the go, unless you think that you would often show off photos to people.

I think that is the problem solved - only thing is now.....do i keep waiting for a new MBP or just buy one now?
I don't think i would really notice the difference between the current version and a refresh - but just cause i know one is on the way - i want the new version, but how long to hold out is the question! :p
