What video whas that??

To SomeAppleGuy: If you really do love Apple and actually work for them then you should just DROP IT. You've stated your opinion and that's fine , just stop harassing everyone else with it.

i dont know what the video was called...

whatever it was, I saw part of it on TLC last night. he was doing almost 350KPH on secluded american roads. he made a few hundred thousand off of it. all i can say is he passed deprived minivan speeders going 90mph as if they were standing still, or going backwards :)

its funny

i laugh at how much time some people spend here. dantec, for instance, started using the forums a month after me and hes already at well over 200 postes. weee.. ill keep posting useless posts. ill get there eventually :)

i think the new imac is spectacular and i really really want one, a great value!!!! dissapointed at first, apple should have never said beyond the rumors sites way beyond that pissed me off alot cus we were right on, didnt mind all the other hype statements, what a great expo!

I forgot to mention

oh yeah, SomeAppleBoy, you asked what new things apple did this year that had not been done before.

1.Superdrive
2.iDVD
3.iMovie
4.iTunes
5.OS X
6.iPod (firs to be more than an mp3 player. it can hold anything under 5gb, and uses firewire)
7.need I go on?

Um...

Superdrive has been done before, call Panasonic

There are plenty of home editing programs for PC like iMovie

MP3 playing software for PC (your right never heard of it (sarcasm))

Dont get me started on the iPod again

OK listen, I dont hate Apple, Im just hoping someone important reads this and starts thinking a little more.

Props on the 14" iBOok even tho that should have started that way

iDVD is great, and im glad iMacs now have that ability. Ok??? so theres some positive stuff. But I still feel disappointed as they promised more with the advertising.

mabye mabye not

like I said, many of the things apple has by themself are not totally new. but it is the things they add to them that make it new. I have never seen an mp3 player that is a stable, beautiful, user friendly, and as compatible with so much as it is. on top of that; sure we have seen visualisers, but none that can yet compare to the itunes GeForce. ( realise that this came from soundjam, and i use it for audion, but the perpetually complicated pc users do not)

dvd burners have been around since the beginning of dvd's, but apple was the first company to put it in a pc.

convert

I once thought the same as SomeAppleGuy, but that was at 12 last night when the only image of the thing was 4x6 at 72 dpi and it only showed it from the front. Today I got home and viewed the thing in all its glory with its moving screen (the reason it looked so ugly in the early pics is that the screen looked stationary with a metal pole attached to an oversized base station). Once I saw the promo video I was impressed, when I checked out the price I was really impressed. Can anyone say G4 tower killer? Pro guys don't flame me with stuff like "no pci cards" and "only 1 gig of ram". I work with final cut pro 2, cinema 4d xl, and commotion pro 4 on a regular basis and I can't see a better package for running such apps at this price range. G4 800, 17 inch flat panel, superdrive, geforce 2, 60 gig drive for 1800!!! Come on! tell me thats not great. On the otherhand you could go out and buy a G4 867 for a base of 2499 add another grand for a 17 inch flat panel and buy yourself an external(or internal) dvd burner for a grand total of about 4 grand!!! Now this is virtually the same damn thing minus pci and hard drive expansion (thats what fire wire is for and yes I know that its not ultra 160 speed) for under 2 grand! And to tell you the truth it really does not look as bad as SomeAppleGuy says it is. But hey if you really want to go off the blue end on a product with as much potential as this, go right ahead and enjoy your new PeeCee with windows XP, just stop with the b*tching.

correction

15 inch display not 17. A 17 inch would have been even better but for 1800 and the fact that i can add a second monitor via the vga output i wont argue. I have to admit im more than a little dissapointed that there were no new towers but considering all of the power they gave the lowely iMac the new towers are going to be pretty damn amazing (i hope). We'll see in Tokyo.

Only 1/7th as cool looking as the cube

I thought that the Cube was a very cool looking when if first came out but I couldn't afford one being a college kid on a tight budget. But the new iMac is just plain stupid looking, if I was given one I would take it but buy it? Not a chance.

If someone gave me one I would sell it on ebay to some chump that didnt know any better. and i agree.. this thing will not last as long as the cube.

SomeAppleGuy

Your point has been made. You don't like the new design and were disappointed by the presentation. We get the idea. Move on.

There are some of us who are not stooges and who think the product has excellent potential to rack up good sales numbers for Apple. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean there isn't a market for it, just that your money won't be going towards one.

As far as the apps are concerned, iMovie does have similar programs in the PC world, but none that were free of charge at the time iMovie was released. Apple is the only company smart enough to reposition the home personal computer as the "digital hub"; other PC companies dance around the idea but still hammer home business and gaming functions. With the sharp increase in sales of digital cameras in the last 12 months, this is a shrewd strategy.

In addition, while you might think the iBook "should have been" 14" screen all along, prices for screens didn't allow for 14" iBooks when the product was introduced. After the first year, economies of scale in manufacturing often allow a company to reduce prices or bump up features at the same price points. This is largely what has happened with iBook now.

I believe you stated you work in Tech Support. If so, I hope I don't get my call or email referred to someone as negative as you. But you might learn a lot from hanging around the Sales and Marketing departments, and find out all the steps that go into making a product for sale. Sometimes the product isn't 100% of what you want when it is first introduced. That is one reason why some wait for 2nd generation models. But operating profitably, especially in 2002, is a hard course to steer, and as an Apple shareholder I think they have dealt a very strong hand.

And I love my Cube. Wrong for 95% of the marketplace (either because of features or price point), it is right for me. The iMac does not have either of these liabilities...

NO, the Cube was fantastic. It packed alot of punch and looked beutiful and it failed. So how can you expect the new iMac to last? I may not be in sales and I may not represent corporate but I know these things, common sence goes a long way in the real world.

Apple Stock is doing the same as the rest of the stock market. Marginal at best. Apple can blame Sept 11th all the want but the truth is the computer market is going down hill and will continue to do so. The boom has ended and its time to move forward. Everyone has a personal computer in their home, they are as common as a television and you are not going to get people to upgrade every year because they look different or have slightly improved speed. Look through these posts and see how many people are still running BEIGE G3s.

What gets me down more than anything is Apple has the power to start making significant differences in our world but choose not too in favor or making an extra buck or 2. 25 years ago they helped create a revolution with the PC. There will be no further revolutions with PCs, lets get more creative than that.

The cube failed because it was priced too high and didn't have a monitor. The iMac is priced for consumers and has a monitor built in.

Apple and Cars

If you are going to compare apple computers to cars i guess ill have to add mine.

Just because there are more volvo's on the road than BMW's does not make them better cars.

Just because more people own pc's doesnt make them better machines, 99% OF THEM STILL RUN WINDOWS

with a mac, you may pay more, no its not for everyone, but you pay for style, elegance, design, simplicity, ease of use and NON WINDOWS.

my 2¢ :)

Can you name an MP3 that is better than ipod?

I am sure the new imac will sell like crazy! There is no other personal computer is like the new imac. It is awesome for your home and of course ergonomic. I bet you PC dorks are trying to copy Apple rite now. In a couple of months I bet you Dell or HP will produce something just like this. Apple is always the inventor! Sure, they are slow in producing faster computer! But they hell can design stylist looking computer that fit perfectly in your home. And, yes they make their own OS. The best looking OS for personal computer!!

Your kids probably like the lamp you will get for them. :O) They can play with iphoto, idvd, imovie, and of couse itune will play music for them while they sleep. But I would suggest if you are looking for a lamp. I got myself a lamp just like an imac no monitor or CPU at home depot for just 9.99...really nice...

$400+ (after tax and shipping) for some 50 hours of continous music? I'm sorry, but I don't find myself walking around that long. The only time I would need that much music might be during a long drunkenfest party in which 400 dollars could buy a much nicer home player. And as for storing data on the 5gb HD?? I'll keep that info on my PB G4.

THE imac rocks and you are stupid

you people who diss the new imac are crazy and stupid!!! First, it is intended for average consumers not geeks....it is intended to make Apple profitable, not to fill your cybergirl fantasy, and it is an amazing machine for the price and value and DESIGN.....It is NOT a new tower...you will just have to wait...so go back to your porno sites and keep slopping down your cheese-puffs on your fat-ass guts...i am sick of hearing people moan and groan...."Waaa Apple this, waaaa Apple that." if you dont like it start your own freakin company....just like SJ!

Stupids

maybe if you don't like these arguements you should not read through this forum.

if you can't stand the heat GET YOUR ASS OUT THE KITCHEN!!!

and while your at go make me a turkey pot pie!

Apple makes them look weird on purpose!

The iMac is for the new users to the Mac. If you know more than 5 command key shortcuts, and know the history of the company and are a fan, the towers are for you. You know what makes the mac special and you should understand why its worth buying the towers. The iMac is for the average non-computer or PC user. Not people that have been converted. Its an excellent computer to buy if you don't want to share your Mac with the family. Apple makes them upgly to the pros because the pros will never be satisfied with anything but a cheap beige box, period. If all apple did was make boxes not many people would want to buy them.

Now the iMac has every feature that the pro line has:
Superdrive
1Gig ram
60 GIG HD
Flat LCD

other than bus speed, what can Apple add to this thing to make it more special. If the iMac sets the standard for what a low end computer is, then I would say that the 21century is going to kick ass! What can apple possible offer on the high end to top this? The only thing different on the top end will be speed. So all you speedfreaks will get what you want, Apple can't offer you anything else!

I love that someappleguy claims to work for APPLE TECH SUPPORT AND SAYS HOW IPODS ARE CHEAP.

Yeah, sure, I believe you, because I am steve jobs shoe shine man.

I think SomeAppleGuy just needs to shut the hell up, go buy a pc, and get on with his pitiful life.
