iMac is freezing

My iMac is freezing all the time! I need help! What could this be a sign of? iMac27" Core2Duo 3.06 8Gb of Ram

That happened to me when i bought it, installed a lot of stuff so i just check the hd and repaired it in the disc utility. That was the problem, it's been fine ever since.
