Greetings,

My Early 2009 iMac is now starting to shutdown on it's own. PRAM/SMC reset did not help so I erased the OS and installed Yosemite to see if the issue was software related. Nope, iMac still spontaneously shuts itself down. I ran TechTool Pro 9 to see if the hard drive/GPU/fans were to blame and every test it was put through passed.

Logic board failure?

Well, the Apple Store will not take this model is because they have deemed it obsolete. Bummer. What should I do with this now? eCycling? Any other creative uses for this paperweight?

Logic board failure?

That would be my guess. Even with it broken, you can still get some money for it on eBay. Just fully disclose what it is doing and what you think it wrong, and some people will buy these even broken for parts.
