Its hard having to trawl through posts with sporadic images. Could people post photos of their screens on white backgrounds and one with the grey bar top and bottom tests. That way we can get a collection of the in one thread. (unless there is thread somewhere on the net already). TIA :D

Good idea. I was wondering too about the amount of yellow people are talking about. To me, my i5 has a slight yellow tinge and I'd like to compare it. I'll put up a picture shortly (don't have much time now).

1st Batch - White page in TextEdit

Ok here are some photos. iMac on left is a 21.5" (week 48) base model, the one on the right is a 27" i7 (week 49).

    Observations:

    1. the back lighting on the 21.5" is weaker than the 27". Both were set to 8 bars on the brightness.

    2. the 21.5" is more yellow overall than the 27" (which is more color correct in terms of white balance, just ever so slightly warm (red) but way better and more accurate than the 21.5"

    3. Yellow tinge on the 21.5" - is evident in the lower right quadrant starting from the center bottom of display and spreading to the right corner and half way up th right handside

    4. Yellow tinge on the 27" is contained to just the left side (a 1cm vertical strip) and the right hand side of the display (more noticeable than the left edge, about 1 inch wide vertical). Bottom centre strip is clean.

    5. Both drives are silent

    6. No screen flicker issues so far (1.5 days in)

If people could post theirs also to add to this thread, so we can collect a visual reference of this issue which some folks might find useful

I suppose the question is, will the iMac late 09's EVER get uniform screens, or is this just how they are until possibly the next revision?

Hopefully, in the future. I found out my 27" iMac had the yellow tinge as well...Doesn't bother me, but I understand how some want their Mac flawless.

I must be colorblind but I can't see anything in those pics - is it worse in person?

Just look at when the 2 gray bars are together, they are the same color. However when pulled apart, the ones at the bottom become a different gray to the ones at the top. I know it's not too bad, but for the price we pay for this it shouldn't have these sort of color dis-figuration problems.

Your yellow tinge is much more prominent than the OP's. Almost covers the whole 1/3 bottom of the display.

Could you and the OP post your Apple display make and model information [under no, 17 in =: Sys prefs > Displays > Colour > Open profile > 17]

I am def not judging - when my i7 arrives, if it has yellow tinge I will be returning it for a new one. We have spent a lot of money on these machines so they should not have these kinds of issues.

The yellow tinge is really pronounced in these pictures (you must really be color blind.. see a doc! ;))

Anyway, I'd return this one for sure.

I can certainly see the yellow.

Does anyone think the logic board could be causing this ?
On a side note, I started to notice the yellow on older apple and dell displays however it's not as obvious since these displays are matte!

Why does Apple seem to have so many problems with displays lately? There was the Unibody Alu macbooks with cheap screens, MacBook air with lines across the screens, iPhone with yellow tint and now it looks like its spread to the imacs

I started noticing that my week 49 i7 was developing the yellow tinge along the bottom and a little up the center. Was reading some CT/MRI's at home and noticed that some of the images weren't looking right. Then I pulled up a blank white screen and could see the tinge quite noticeable. Called AppleCare and they want me to bring it to my local Apple store to have the problem verified by a genius. Hopefully the genius doesn't give me a hard time about this being "normal".

Usually I don't see the yellow tinge right during startup, it is after the computer has been used for an extended period of time.

I'm sure Apple will take great care of you, but in case you have to, remind them that they advertise the display as the "ultimate", with a "perfect picture with superb color consistency and no loss of detail." Tell them you want what they said you were getting.

Thanks, but I remembered that UNIX had standard ftp, and so has OS X :)

When I was in there the Geniuses denied being able to see at all a tinge that was fairly obvious. My machine also had the flickering so they took it back anyway, but good luck getting them to see it.

JimAtLaw, I see in your sig you have an i7? Is that the one you took to the store and the Apple Geniuses took it back?

How did that work? They had i7's on hand?
