Anyone else still using the late 2009 iMac? Without issues.

Mine is working but starting to slow down (Safari freezes sometimes) and have a few issues. Like the App Store looks odd when you try to update apps

I'm guessing the software is no longer supported in 2021? No more updates?

Some apps aren't working, e.g. Adblock doesn't always work.

It's not broken but starting to slow down. I'm not using it for any intensive tasks so don't need to rush out and buy the new M1 version but maybe it's time to think about it. Very light use of photoshop/affinity photo but otherwise emails and browsing.

CD drive broke years ago and I switched out the HD for a SSD.

I don't want to buy another machine just because this one is out of date but maybe the issues will start multiplying now.

Running a 2010 here with the new one on the way. I'd say its about time we upgraded bortha. I'm running a SSD in mine too and apps work ok overall but alot of them I can't update anymore.

Honestly, there's no reason to think that issues will multiply over time. There won't be much you can do in regard to updating it, but as long as you're ok with the software already on it and aren't looking for new functionality, that isn't really an issue. And you've replaced the major performance limitation - the hard drive.

As and when you feel the need for new software, or you get frustrated by the speed, you'll likely give yourself no option but to replace it, but for now, I'd keep on using it.

Bear in mind that I, personally, do like to keep older systems in use - right next to my M1 iMac, just installed on Monday, I have a 1994 Performa 630CD, and at home, a 2003 G4 iMac. Old stuff is fine as long as 'period appropriate' software is being used.

Certainly in no rush to upgrade and I'm totally used to the lower resolution screen. I'm going to stick with it unless there is a major problem. Just interested to see if there are others still hanging on determined not to upgrade.

I have 2 iMacs late 2009 (27") and 1 iMacs 2010 (27").
On my iMac 2009 (HD 4850)
I don't use Safari for web browsing, only Chrome and Edge. Everything is smooth like silk.
Communications aps like Messenger, Zalo, Lines also work fine. Watching movies by VLC is also fine, too.
The only limitation to me is I have to stick to an old version of MS Office 2016 and cannot upgrade to Office 365, which requires newer Mac OS version (Mojave).

On the other iMacs, which I have replaced the GPU with metal support GPU.
I installed Big Sur and everything works fine, except Camera and microphone, which circumvent the use of communication aps.

I've got a 21.5" 2009 iMac with the on-board 9400 GPU. I recently used the OpenCore patcher to upgrade it to Big Sur and it seems to be running just fine. I probably should put an SSD into it to make it faster but it seems to be running along just fine.
