Lately i had to press the powerbutton at the back of the imac several times before i hear the startup chime. Is this likely caused by an empty battery and is the battery an cr2032?
I have to open the imac to convert it to a display for my new m4mini and will try to be able to reuse the imac but would not go through the process leaving the imac working by switching cables if the startup problems have other reasons.
After use the mac i have always turned off the powerplug.

Apple uses a battery with higher temperature tolerance, a BR2032.
The CR2032 is the same size, but won't last as long if you are running the iMac at higher power.

With regard to running the iMac's own logic board whilst doing the DIY monitor conversion, there is no new information as to how this could be done, but others are trying...

More likely a dirty, rusty or stiffened power button. A bit annoying to fix, but fixable anyway.
