I don't hear the boot chime being louder, but they fixed my problem. Whenever I set the volume it always used to go back to the middle (standard) setting after a reboot. It doesn't anymore. Happy now.

Ok, Applecare was of no help. Here is the only solution that I thought of--get a set of external speakers. Not only do they sound better (I got the subwoofer), but you can control the volume on the system itself. Works out perfect. But sucks that they couldn't figure out how to adjust the volume on the system itself.
