Hi,
I currently have a 2001 iMac and wish to trade up for a newer model for a faster processor. Is it true they'll be releasing a M5 one in the fall?

If that's true, then I guess I'll wait.
Thanks,
Patrick

You have a 2001 iMac? You mean the iMac G3? You sir are iconic. Do you still use it as your daily driver?

I am not sure if an iMac M5 is coming soon. I know they skipped the M2 processor. It's anyone's guess. But I would say if you can wait, I would wait. Especially by the fall, there's a good chance it gets updated by then.

Nobody knows for sure.

It's about time for a new iMac to appear - but all people can do is guess based on how often they usually release new models - and things are volatile at the moment due to component shortages and demand on chip fabricators.

The only real fixed events in Apple's calendar are announcing new OS versions at WWDC in June and new iPhones in September. Everything else is astrology and numerology (or sometimes reliable leaks start to appear when the launch is fairly close).

My guess is that the iMac update is a long ways away.

We're approaching 2 years since the last update, Apple is cutting SKUs of the Mini and Studio because of the ram crunch. With the iMac not being as popular anymore, there's probably less motivation to roll out a new model - at least yet.
