Refurbs aren't THAT cheap. If you buy a brand new computer, lets say an iMac...From a strictly financial standpoint you're better off putting the money you'd use to buy a refurb notebook into a CD or something and then when it expires cash in and buy a new machine.
Unless you really need a notebook that is, in which case I'd suggest ditching the desktop. It's a pain to transfer files back and forth.
