Hi, I just upgraded my GPU yesterday on my 2010 27" iMac. I went with a Nvidia Quadro K2000M. It an MXM-A 3.0 card which is the same size as the existing card so there are no additional mods you'll need to do. However you may have to drill in the holes on the x-clamp so the heatsink screws can fit. Thats what I did..worked like a charm. I suggest getting the K1100M though. Its about $20 cheaper on eBay and its slightly better.

Suggest a bigger bang for your buck would be to trade the unit in towards a new iMac.
thanks for the response. To tell you the truth it was the first thing on my mind but the difference to get something good would be a bit steep. I would first like to try and see my options with my current setup. :)

Hi
New to this today but have had great help when trying to setup my iMac 27 2011.

I have decided to go all out and go for the installation of Catalina. Before this I decided to get a new GPU and went with the Geforce GTX 675MX 4GB. This has been perfect without any issues at all.
the card does argue with the heat sink of 6970 but buying this on ebay for 275 Pound was the best step.
instruction in included and the back plate.
It was a straight plug and play with boot screen Available. i had already installed Catalina on the old card but got the normal GPU with issues.
After restarting system and holding down Option key I reinstalled Catalina with the Normal Dosdude1 patched usb and the new GTX 675MX for mac installed..... All Good now running Native Catalina with iTunes/Photos all linked to my IPad Pro 2018.
Just for another bit of info.... My boys love Fortnite and after this install they are able to play this on Catalina.
Hope this Helps any thinking of doing similar install

PS have been keeping an eye on the temp of GPU not exceeded 74oC yet.

Hello did you have to do anything else to get this card working or was it just plug and play?
Cheers

Hello,
Hmmmm a new GPU in an iMac 2011... that's something new... :D

Nah.. take a look here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2011-imac-graphics-card-upgrade.1596614/

I have a K1100M and a GTX765 in 2 of mine. Works fine, even Mojave work like a charm. I did not test Catalina yet.
does the K1100M work out of the box? Plug and play?
Thank you

I did my upgrade, but felt it was getting to hot so I made this little fan guide.. testing at the mo..
