Hi all,
I have an iMac 2011 as shown below

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac12,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 3.1 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 32 GB
Boot ROM Version: 87.0.0.0.0
SMC Version (system): 1.72f2

I am in the process of upgrading the CPU and ordered what was listed as an
i7-2600 @ 3.40GHz Quad Core Socket LGA1155 SR00B
As i believed this would be a simple drop-in upgrade.

However, the CPU that arrived is:
i7-2600K 3,4 GHz 8 MB Cache s1155 SR00C

I have looked through a few posts on here and other sites that say it works...if you modify files.
Others say it does not work.

I have not tried the CPU yet, is it likley to cause a headache in your opinions?

Cheers

Of course it's likely to cause a headache.
- Bent legs on the CPU socket
- Thermal paste scattering to all over the place
- Forget to connect the thermal sensor
- Broken LVDS cable/sockets
... and tons of other human errors during the disassembing/reassembling process.
None of them relating to the K.

Very droll, I am not worried about dis-assembly/re-assembly. I have worked with PC/Servers for 20+ years, although this is my first Mac.
The question related to the K variant.
Reading through posts on here there "appears" to be no 100% verdict that the i7 K will just drop in and work...simple question really I would have thought.
