My iMac 27/2.7qc/2x2gb/1tb/6770m, bought new in 2011. The motherboard died. Is it worth replacing the motherboard ?

On a 2011 ?

No. Unless you can find one really, really cheap (say, under $200).

Time to look for something new.

What leads you to conclude, "it's the motherboard"?

You can get a motherboard off of eBay pretty inexpensively without the CPU, but they're not that much more with the CPU and you could even upgrade to 3.4 GHz for well under $200.

It's the GPUs that cost an arm and a leg.

I had it at repair shop, they transferred over all my files to external. (machine wouldn't turn on, nothing, which is why I had it looked at).

The repair shop didn't diagnose this for you? Could just be a bad power supply if it won't turn on.
