I'm trying to help a friend upgrade his iMac's memory. It is confusing to figure out which memory stick for which iMac.

This is his Hardware overview
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac5,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2

L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB (currently 1 GB 2 halfs)
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM51.0090.B09 SMC Version (system): 1.9f4

I think the correct memory is PC5300 DDR2 667MHz 200 Pin, but since I don't have hands on the computer to simply check the old memory sticks, I need to be sure before I order for him.

As always, I am grateful for help I often receive one MacRumors.

It is PC2-5300. Uses the same memory of the MacBooks from that generation. So make sure you are getting the smaller iMac sticks.

Thanks to all the folks who helped me complete my ElCapitan venture. I came so close to not finishing. There were so many options, well intended, but thought at times my head was going to fall off.

Last night I checked YouTube once again; just needed more visual help. I found one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McaJjAAo4DI
Along with the many other suggestions, I finally completed the task today around 3:00PM.

I hope if anyone comes looking for help, you share this link with them. I still can hardly believe that I finished the task.

Fishrrman OP: I did use your suggestions after I got the USB thumb drive working.
