So, I've got these photos from vacation on CD that I'd like to put on my comp, but my iMac won't read the disk. It shows up in Finder... but the name is sort of faded out. I can see it in Disk Utility, but can't really do anything with it. I can eject it and such, but not much more.

Any ideas?

Could be a few things...A bad CD is the most likely culprit, but optical drives differ...My first suggestion would be to try the disk in another machine...assuming the shots are jpegs or standard format, any machine will do for a test.

If this fails, then it put my money on bad media...(Diff CD) are the shots still on your camera?

Nah, it was an underwater disposable.

Will try on the wife's Macbook tomorrow. Thanks.

Just thought maybe there was a permissions thing I was missing.

Another thing...Try it in a Windows machine too if you can before you give up..Even if the CD was Mac created, you might just get lucky!

It was Windows created... I'm guessing. The photo place put our pics on it when we got 'em developed.

Would that matter?

Under some circumstances yes...You may have a CD specifically formatted for Windows, it can be done...Find a PC, I reckon you will get them back.
